Founded in 2010 by former college and professional hockey player Mike Guerra, Top Shelf Hockey Clinics was founded to develop the next generation of hockey players.

THE BACKBONE OF TSH CLINCS IS THE multi-WEEK, INVITE ONLY, INTENSIVE ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. Several alumni of this program have GONE ON TO PLAY major junior, college, or professional hockey. THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON REALISTIC GAME PLAY TO DEVELOP DYNAMIC SKILLS ON AND OFF THE ICE AND IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR OUR ATHLETES TO REACH THEIR MAXIMUM POTENTIAL.

Mike Guerra - Founder & Head Coach
Mike Guerra is a professional hockey player originally from Whitestone, New York. Mike started his hockey career playing in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League for the Great Neck Bruins and later, the Greater New York Stars and the Long Island Edge as well as playing 4 years of Varsity hockey at Saint Francis Preparatory School.
After high school, Mike went on to play Juniors hockey for the Metro Fighting Moose of the Continental Hockey Association and the New York Bobcats of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League.
In 2010-2011, Mike played for the ACHA D1 Stony Brook Seawolves.
In 2011-2012, Mike signed his first professional contract with the Brooklyn Aviators of the FHL and finished the season with the Delaware Federals of the FHL. Since 2011-2012, Mike has continued his pro hockey career in the FHL playing for the Cape Cod/ New York Bluefins, the Berkshire Battalion, and the Steel City Warriors.
Mike is the Associate Head Coach of the Saint Francis Prep Terriers as well as the Assistant Coach of the Long Island Edge Bantam team.
mike is a certified personal trainer and has received his credentials from the American Fitness Institute. He looks forward to bringing his extensive hockey knowledge back to the athletes of the LIAHL and the CHSHL, as well as to all of New York State.
Sam Cheema - Defensive Coach
Sam brings a wealth of international experience to the coaching roster at Top Shelf with his career taking him all over Europe. Sam is a simple no-nonsense transitional defenseman that has utilized his vision and incorporated his European skill set into his game to advance his hockey career.
Sam played on the Great Britain national side in 2017 in Kazakhstan at the world winter games. In Kazakhstan the team was pooled against Canada, USA and Slovakia in their group.
Sam has played on the back to back National Junior Championship teams in 2010 - 2012 and picked up his first professional contract at the age of 16 with the Streatham Redskins.
Since, then Sam has gone on to play for Invicta Dynamos, London Racers, Milton Keynes Thunder, Wightlink Raiders, Bracknell Hornets and Great Britain.
Now, living in New York, he has moved on to coach with the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils youth programs as well as being an assistant skill development coach to Sean Skinner. Sam has also worked with Central Park Hockey, Imperial College, Ice Hockey in Harlem and Hudson Valley Polar Bears. Sam is currently coaching with the New York City Skyliners organization.
John Defeo - Offensive Coach
John Defeo has been with Top Shelf Hockey Clinics since its formation and founding in the Summer of 2010.
John is a highly skilled offensive forward who has played all over Long Island. He started his hockey career with the Long Island Gulls and played on many different teams on the island until he was named to the Apple Core Junior B Continental Hockey Association team at age thirteen.
The following year, John left Apple Core and spent two years with the Great Neck Bruins earning them two state title.
In 2009, John won a Junior B National Championship with New York Applecore and averaged over a point per game.
In 2010, 2011, and 2012 John played on the Junior A Applecore Eastern Junior Hockey League team. In 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, John averaged more than a point per game and lead his team in scoring.
From 2012-2015, John has been playing hockey for SUNY Fredonia (NCAA D3 SUNYAC) and most recently joined the Stony Brook Seawolves for the 2015-2016 season. John is excited to spend another season improving the skills of hockey players in the NYC and Long Island area.
Anthony Modica, Associate Instructor
Anthony, is a an alumni of the 2013 class. Now playing his hockey for ACHA Boston College, as a sophomore, he has made his name for his no nonsense hard work play chipping in with over 40pts in his collegiate career to date.
Prior to his endeavors in Boston College, Modica, was recognized for his leadership qualities as he was nameda team captain for the Suffolk Juniors and posted a career high of 41pts during the ESHL campaign.
In the same year, Modica represented Jericho/East Williston Varsity hockey team where he excelled adding the Long Island, Nassau County, and the Town of Oyster Bay championships to his resume. Modica, was an integral part of his teams winning ways as he posted 45pts during the highschool season.
Modica is a well known and respected Long Island athlete having played his youth hockey for the Great Neck Bruins before making the jump to Juniors. Anthony is excited for the opportunity to coach within the Top Shelf Hockey program and is a glowing example of what hard work at TSH can accomplish.
Dave Concannon Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Dave Concannon is the owner of Gravity in Motion Training Facility and a certified personal trainer whose expertise is sport specific training.
Dave’s training regimen is based around functional, purposeful, and explosive movements. His workouts are tailored towards athletics. He believes in improving functional strength to increase athletic performance and is an accomplished trainer who knows how to push muscular and cardiovascular limits with athletes while maintaining good form and preventing injuries.
Dave believes that the best programs, trainer, and coaches utilize training techniques custom tailored towards sport-specific training. His explosive hockey oriented regiment coupled with his in-depth preventative injury approach to training leaves athletes well prepared for the hockey season.
Dave will be providing TSH athletes with his comprehensive training philosophy as well as with a state of the art facility which was built with the modern athlete in mind.
